have the opportunity to 'shop' not only for their electric provider, but
also for a variety of energy-related products and services.

As part of the transition to retail competition in the electric marketplace,
certain services have been deemed "competitive.” That means the regulated
utility is not allowed to offer these services, and non-utility competitors
can offer them directly to customers.
These competitive energy services include:
- Security Lighting: Lighting equipment installed on customer
property.
- Energy Audits: Audits that inform residential and small commercial
customers of energy conservation practices and measures to manage energy
use.
- Energy Efficient Products: Sales and installation of energy saving
products and appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, water heaters,
dishwashers, clothes washers, room air conditioners, central air
conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, insulation, etc.
- Energy Efficiency Programs: Efficiency services, investments in
energy efficient technology, rebates, low-cost energy efficiency
programs and loans.
- Metering: Installation, upkeep, reading and management of certain
enhanced electric meters.
- Customer Usage Information: Services that compile customer
information such as load data profiling, analysis, etc.

types of services, you should contact your local electric utility or check
the local yellow pages.
Some competitive services may be offered by retail electric providers as
part of their electric service package.
In the future, you can anticipate more offerings and new developments in the
innovation and technology of products and services that the competitive
